What are Wax Melts?
When people come into Sage & Bumble they always say how wonderful it smells, many say that the smell from outside even draws them in. When i tell them it is a Wax Melt that is giving out the amazing fragrance, i am always a little surprised that many do not know what a Wax Melt is. So with this in mind i thought i would let you know what they are.
What is a Wax Melt?
Wax melts are scented pieces of wax without a wick. They can come in different shapes, colours and sizes. A Wax Melt gives off scent when cold; however, they are designed to be slowly warmed using a tea light warmer or an electric wax warmer. When warmed, this is where they really come in to their own! Our Wax Melts are handmade by us here at Sage & Bumble, they are highly scented and are currently available in 48 stocked fragrances.
How to use Wax Melts.
Wax melts are VERY easy to use. You simply take your wax melt and place it in your warmer or melter then light your tea light or turn on your heat warmer if it is electric. When you are finished using them, you just turn off or remove the heat source and the wax will solidify until you are ready to use it again. When you are ready to use it again, just turn the warmer back on or light the tea light (depending on which type of warmer you have). We prefer to use an electric warmer here as they are flame free and we have Cats…..we don’t want tails in naked flame tea light candles, also we find electric warmers safer and more cost effective over time.
When you are ready to dispose of the used wax melts, you can allow the wax to harden, then just allow it to heat for a few seconds to loosen it and it should pop right out or whilst it is melted pop a couple of cottonwool balls in to the melted wax and it soaks it up.
What are the best Wax Melts and which should you avoid?
There are different types of wax melts available. Most wax melts are made with either paraffin wax or soy wax. You should avoid paraffin wax as it is a petroleum by-product. Always opt for a natural soy wax melt. They burn cleaner than paraffin and last longer.
Why Wax Melts over Candles?
Wax melts are becoming increasingly popular and for good reason, too! Wax Melts work out to be much more cost-effective than buying candles, meaning you can treat yourself more often. Just half of one of our wax melt shots costs 65p and typically lasts 12 hours! That’s 24 hours for £1.30.
According to scientific estimates, a glass jar takes a million years to decompose, if it isn’t recycled. It is one of the longest lasting man-made products. By buying glass jars of scented candles, we will be adding to our environmental waste. About 28 billion glass jars are thrown away each year. Many experts say these might end up remaining in our environment indefinitely.
Also Wax Melts allow you to get creative. You can easily experiment with them by combining two or more different fragrances to come up with a custom fragrance. For example, you could combine a piece of an Orange & Peel wax melt with a piece of a Pink Grapefruit wax melt to create your own custom fragrance. When using wax melts you are not limited to using one fragrance at a time, so get creative, experiment and have some fun mixing wax melts to come up with your own custom fragrances.
Unlike a candle which may burn for many days you use a portion of wax and can change your fragrance more regularly meaning you can have lots of different fragrances.
They are safer – when used correctly! There is no need to use a naked flame to heat your wax and fragrance your home. Electric warmers are extremely effective and very safe to use.
